Driving to Kabul I crossed paths with a Northern Alliance fighter on horseback just as the sun peaked over the horizon. In spite of the language barrier we shared tea and figs – before continuing on my journey I gave him two MRE’s, one of which is my favorite, Chicken Fajitas with a side dish of Mexican corn and rice and for desert Chocolate Chip Ranger Bars. I kept the mini bottle of Tabasco for myself. Prior to the road trip to Kabul I took discarded water bottles and fill them up with pennies and candy and threw them out the window to village kids as they waved from the side of the road.
